Q) What does MIS stand for and what does the discipline entail?

A) Management Information Systems is a discipline dedicated to filling the need for a bridge between the less technical (i.e., people with little background in computers) with those that are more technical (such as software developers, engineers, and hardware installers). MIS majors focus on helping organizations more effectively use their computer resources.

Q) What are some of the core classes that are needed to fulfill and MIS major?

Q) What is the best way to go about getting an internship in an MIS related field?

A) Your best route is to go to Luther's Career Center and talk with them about what companies are interviewing on campus, how to draw up a resume, and where and how to research the companies which you are interviewing with.

A) Check out the MIS alumni page for an answer to this question.

Q) Is it possible to double major in MIS and CS?

A) No, it isn't. Students must choose to major in either MIS or CS, not both. Further, MIS students cannot minor in CS (Likewise CS students can't minor in MIS).

Q) What are some of the typical interests held in common by MIS majors?

A) Computers, programming languages, working closely with people, a need for challenges, problem solving, and good written and spoken communication skills.

Q) How much hands on experience should be expected during Luther Colleges MIS program?

A) While most of the specific information that will be needed for a job will in fact be supplied by you employer, Luther will prepare you to be able to think analytically, cooperatively, and with organization while solving problems within the MIS field. That is far more important that knowing the exact skills that are needed for your job.
